Stay Cool with Summer Fruits + Veggies, Market Customers!
It’s going to be a hot one this weekend – but the fruits and veggies are loving the summer weather! Our farmers’ fields are overflowing with fresh herbs, greens, fruit, veggies, and all the abundance that a good hot summer day can bring. There are even huckleberries!
Kids Day is almost here! Have your kids signed up as youth vendors? On August 9th (Wednesday) and August 19th (Saturday), we’re giving the young people a chance to sell at the market as a youth vendor for TWO Kids Days instead of one. Pick up an application at the manager’s booth or click here to download: Kids day vendor application 2023.
This Saturday, the Hayden Library will be back at the market with an activity for kids and a free book. Then, next Wednesday, the 19th, Kid Centric Sports Association will be in our Community Booth raising awareness and support for helping youth be active and involved. Check them out!
This Week’s PoP Club!
This week’s PoP Club Activity: Sniff – Snack – Slap Those Herbs!
PoP Club is a free market program for kids ages 5-12 introduces them to healthy produce with fun hands-on activities and challenges that are fresh and new each week. When a child completes an activity, they get a $2 token that they can redeem around the market for fresh fruit, vegetables, and food-bearing plants.
Here are some beautiful things from our vendors that you might find at the Market this Saturday and next Wednesday. And check out our grilling recipe below to keep your kitchen cool.
Rider Mushroom Co.: RMC will be at the Saturday 7/22 market with Pink Oyster, Old Road Oyster, Indian Oyster, and Lion’s Mane mushrooms and mushroom grow kits. Take a look at these beauties!
Narrow Way Coffee Roasters:We will be serving pour over samples of our unique and premier coffees. We are showcasing our Nicaragua Geisha which is a high-end coffee that is full of tantalizing floral and fruity notes. The same coffee that comes from Panama is usually sold for hundreds of dollars a pound – we have the honor of enjoying the same varietal from Nicaragua at a much lower price! We also have a new coffee from Haiti that we like to say has “island vibes” and comes from a non-profit farm who gives back to their workers and pays them above fair wages. We love being able to support those type of organizations! Stop by to sample all our offerings and take a bag or two of local, fresh-roasted coffee home to enjoy this week! P.S. all our coffees are great iced or as cold brew!
Sandia Spice: It’s summer! We have all your favorite spice mixes for grilling and salads – plus some new and fresh flavors bottled up and in the works. Come see how we can spice up your life!
Lil Punkin Pie Co.: I have been picking, pitting, and freezing mulberries, raspberries, cherries, rhubarb, and strawberries! At this week’s Wednesday Market, Tonnamaker’s Farm finally had apricots after 3 years! And I was able to acquire a whole season of huckleberries from Lor Gardens! I’m twitterpated with the options! Brought 16 different flavors of pie last market! Come taste the flavors of the season – ensconced in flaky pastry!
Gem State Mushrooms: This weekend, we will be featuring blue oyster, golden oyster, pink oyster, king trumpet oyster, and lions mane mushrooms. We will also have a chef preparing samples of delicious recipes featuring our blue oyster mushrooms! Stop by and try a taste.

Fresh this Week:
Fire up the grill and let our Market Vendors provide the flavor!
- 1 lb Wildrye kabob sirloin beef
- 8 oz Young Shin's Korean Samjang garlic chili sauce
- 2 large cucumbers (about 3 cups sliced)
- 2 Tbs Shoyu or Tamari soy sauce
- 4 Tbs rice vinegar
- 1 Tbs honey or maple syrup
- 1 tsp Korean (Gochugaru) or regular red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp sesame seeds
- 2 green or spring onions, chopped
- 2 cups cooked Northern Latitude Organic Idaho Wild Rice (optional)
- Young Shin's Korean kimchi (optional)
Heat up the grill or a grill pan under the broiler in your oven. Soak wooden skewers in warm water for a few minutes.
Add a little bit of water to 1/2 cup of the Samjang sauce to thin. Pour over the meat, mix to coat, and marinate for at least 15 minutes.
Skewer the meat and cook on the hot grill about two minutes per side, until done.
Thinly slice the cucumbers with a mandolin or knife and place in a serving bowl.
In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, vinegar, and sweetener. Pour over the cucumbers.
Sprinkle with the chili powder, or to taste, and the sesame seeds. Mix, taste, and adjust chili powder to your liking.
Add the green onions. Mix and serve immediately.
Enjoy the skewers over rice with additional Samjang sauce and/or kimchi and with the salad on top or on the side.
