Huckleberries are finally here, Market Customers!
Ok, ok, we know these aren’t huckleberries in the picture, but Lore Gardens will have fresh huckleberries this Saturday! AND Emerald Dreams Farms will have fresh, organic blueberries: 5-6 lb bags for $28.75 and pints for $6.75. Tis the season for all the azure-hued small round fruits! Pair either one with fresh or dried culinary lavender from Pamelot Lavender for a refreshing Berry Lavender Lemonade – recipe below!
Beyond the berries, our farm booths are overflowing with produce, from broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage, to leafy greens, beefy root veggies, and delicate, flavorful herbs. Our ranchers have bison, chicken, beef, and pork to compliment your veggie selections, and our dairy farmers offer cow and goat hard and soft cheeses, milk, chocolate milk, cream, and yogurt to add a touch of creaminess to any meal.
And don’t forget the beekeepers! Local honey is great for seasonal allergies, deep nourishment, and natural sweetness drizzled on yogurt. Our honey vendors make additional use of the nectar and the beeswax to make candles, body products, and more. Willow Wood Honey Farm also has small and large hand-crafted baskets if you’re thinking of foraging your own wild berries, greens, or mushrooms.
This week’s feature from Gem State Mushrooms is an Oyster Mushroom Medley. And did you know GSM has punch cards and shopping bags? This weekend, use your GSM shopping tote and get a double punch with your purchase.
Rider Mushroom Co. will be at the market on Saturday and Wednesday with five Oyster varieties and Bear’s Head mushrooms.
Market bouquets range from wild to pristine, but we have more than fresh-cut. If you’re jealous of the lilies that are in season, Danny Pleasant Gardens has a wide range of bulbs that he cultivates for you to plant. Bonsai Bob at Gray to Green Nursery has bonsai trees from small to large, young to old, to satisfy your indoor green thumb for years to come. For something with low maintenance, check out the succulents from Mudd-Work or the Sexy Succulent Sisters! We also have potted flowering plants to add to your landscape or garden.
The Food Section
Our Food Court is sizzling this summer! From sweet to savory, bites to sips, there’s a little something for everyone in the food corner. In addition, our wonderful bakers have a wealth of breads, pastries, pies, handpies, cupcakes, gluten free, and more, and are diffused throughout the market so that you can grab something delicious to munch on while you shop or to take home. We just can’t get enough of the Everything Bagels at MaK Bread! Skip the MaK line and reserve your 4-pack on their website before market day.
PoP ClubPoP Club is a free market program for kids ages 5-12 that introduces them to healthy produce with fun hands-on activities and challenges that are fresh and new each week. When a child completes an activity, they get a $2 token that they can redeem around the market for fresh fruit, vegetables, and food-bearing plants. This week’s fun activity: planting pumpkin/winter squash seeds! |
Reminder: Bring your market basket for your shopping or a box for your plants. Our vendors also appreciate small cash bills, especially if you are shopping early.

Huckleberries. Blueberries. Raspberries. Make this with whatever berries you like!
- 2 Tbs lavender flowers, fresh or dried
- 1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries, huckleberries, raspberries, blackberries, or a mix of these
- 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4 large lemons)
- local honey, to taste
- 3 1/2 cups cold, filtered water
-
In a small pot over medium high heat, bring the water to a boil. Remove from heat and add the lavender. Stir and then steep for 10 minutes.
-
Add the berries, lemon juice, and honey to a pitcher of your choice. Strain the lavender water into the pitcher and stir to dissolve the honey.
-
Stir in the remaining cold water and serve over ice. Garnish with a lemon wheel or stem of lavender, if desired. Enjoy!
