Happy August, Friends! We hope you’re enjoying the sunshine and heat. But if you find yourself seeking water or AC by mid-day, consider trying one of the fresh, heat-busting recipes. Berries are ON right now!
Berries are high in antioxidants, fiber, nutrients and are said to help fight inflammation. Read on for a couple of bright, fresh berry recipes… including one from Deb from The Plant Patch.

- Spring Greens and/or Baby Spinach
- Red onion thinly sliced
- Blue Cheese crumbled
- Favorite nuts such as walnuts, hazelnuts or sliced almonds
- Fresh summer Raspberries
- Raspberry ZIVIO Vinegar (available from The Plant Patch at KCFM)

This delicious combination can be varied as to season and produce availability. You can substitute other creamy, tangy artisan cheeses, such as your favorite Farmers Market goat cheese. Try blueberries or huckleberries but in the winter, you can substitute dried cranberries or other dried fruit for another tasty combination.
- 1 c freshly squeezed lemon juice (4-6 lemons)
- 1/2 c raspberries
- 1/2 c blackberries
- 4 c water
- 1 c sugar
- lemon slices
- fresh basil for garnish

Combine lemon juice, raspberries and blackberries in a blender and puree, Strain through a fine mesh sieve and discard the seeds.
Combine the lemon-berry juice, water and sugar in a pitcher and stir. Fill the pitcher with ice. Serve garnished with lemon slices and fresh basil.
