“Nothing makes a farmer happier than a well timed rain.” This is a direct quote from one of our local farmers (thanks, Kristine!) and is so true. Messy and sometimes inconvenient, but so essential to the growth of field crops, hay and pasture for livestock.
…So let’s celebrate nature’s extra food-producing boost this week with Buc 99 performing bluegrass and country on our market stage!
Fresh This Week: Lettuce, Spinach, Kale, Red and Yellow Onions, Arugula, Potatoes, Tulips, Local-Hardy Plant Starts, Beef, Pork, Bison, Eggs, Honey, Heritage Grains. |
This week’s feature: Live laying hens! Amiable Acres has started pullets available and will have them at market. On SALE this week $20 each or 6 for $100 (normally $25 each or 6 for $130).
The breeds are Black Australorp, and Black Sexlink. Raised on non GMO feed, now they are getting free range forage as well. Currently 3 months old, and will be laying this summer.
(PS: they also have a new, cleverly-designed mobile chicken tractor that they’re selling at market!)
