Riley Creek Blueberry Farm
In business since 1994, Riley Creek Blueberry Farm doesn’t have much competition for the title of oldest blueberry farm in North Idaho! And after all these years, most of the day-to-day work of growing over 50,000 lbs of blueberries each year is still done by members of the family, including bringing berries to the Kootenai County Farmers’ Market on Saturdays in July and August each year.
With just about 4 acres of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries, the farm loves and encourages you-pickers to come and visit as well. They’re open daily – even during the pandemic – at their farm in Laclede on Hwy 2 between Sandpoint and Priest River. And social distancing is easy with their self-serve, honor-system set-up. Grab a bucket (or bring your own), follow the map to the location that’s being picked that day, and when your bucket is full, weigh it, put your cash in the box, and sort and bag your berries into the ziplocks provided. Easy peasy.
So buy some berries at market and take them home. If the kids love them, then plan an outing to stock your freezer. But don’t wait, as the berries are only in-season for about a month.
