Summer has finally arrived, Market Customers!
Produce is starting to fill the farmers’ shelves at the market – see our fresh list below! – but there are still plenty of veggie, herb, and flower starts available. In fact, Highland Acres has a selection of early producing tomatoes that are adapted to North Idaho climates, so you can still plant and see a harvest this summer. This week, we’re also featuring beets, so check out our farmers market recipe in this post.
Get ready for the holiday next week with a few Red, White, and Blue Flower Baskets from Royal Highlands. They will be on sale for only $25 and make lovely porch, balcony and lawn party decorations.
‘Tis grilling season, and now that the sun is out more frequently, we’re pretty sure you’ll be firing up that grill or smoker. Ramstead Ranch has amazing 100% grass-fed and grass-finished lamb back in stock! This Saturday, pick up ground lamb, lamb chops, or lamb stew meat by the package or reserve your whole or half lamb for delivery this fall. Idaho Livestock will also be at the market with mix ‘n match sausage packs on special: 5 packages for $35. Choose from regular, cheese and jalapeno, and grab some Sky Blue Oyster, Nilla Oyster, Indian Oyster or Lion’s Beard mushrooms from Rider Mushroom Co. to cook up on the side.
A nice loaf of bread or sweet baked treat pairs nicely with a summer grilled meal! And our bakers have a little something for everyone. Lake City Bakers reminded us this week that they offer some gluten-friendly and vegan options in addition to their popular pastries, cookies, and loaves. Their vegan options even include $5 scratch-baked French Bread loaves as well, perfect for bruschetta.
Black Forest Bakery is featuring their scrumptious KäseSahne Torte/German Cheesecake. Flavors will be lemon 🍋 and tangerine 🍊. The soft cheese, or quark, for this style of cake is homemade. So cooling and creamy on a warm day!
Don’t forget to stop by the Food Court and grab something to sip or eat while you listen to the band. The Wellness Bar truck has the most refreshing and delicious juices, smoothies and acai bowls. The Crunchy Monkey with granola, peanut butter, sliced bananas, a drizzle of dark chocolate, and hemp hearts is a favorite.
PoP Club This WeekPoP Club activities for kids are back for the season! This free market program for kids ages 5-12 introduces them to healthy produce with fun hands-on activities and challenges that are fresh and new each week. When a child completes an activity, they get a $2 token that they can redeem around the market for fresh fruit, vegetables, and food-bearing plants. This Week’s Activity Rhubarb is still fully in season, so we’re bringing it on with a two-bite challenge. Kids try a bite of rhubarb by itself, then try one dipped in sugar for a fun way to discover a new food! |
Reminder: Bring your market basket for your shopping or a box for your plants. Our vendors also appreciate small cash bills, especially if you are shopping early.
